Creative Arts Studio

Director’s Note | 2009

It is the mission of Creative Arts Studio to encourage learning through artistic methods that are individually meaningful to each student.  In our second decade of business we continue to hold close to this mission.

2009 brings an eventful year; one filled with difficult and uncertain times. In this economic climate the presence of instability has become weighty and troublesome in our own lives, around the country and throughout world.  What better way to close our doors to this stress, to confront difficult times with optimism and awakening.  It is the time to open doors to safe, upbeat, enlightening havens in our own homes, schools, and community resources.

Creative Arts Studio is one such nurturing neighborhood center providing shelter from the outside storms. Inside we move beyond the windowpane, the TV screen, and the daily newspaper. Inside we build our own private place to be creative, feel positive about personal accomplishments, and build on our imaginations; all within each student’s reach. A sense of calm, connection and comfort prevail when our classes in dance, drama, music and artistic development are conducted.  Friendships are formed, artistic skills are learned & absorbed and our creativity lends confidence to our personal growth.
Creative Arts Studio is not, however, blind to its surroundings. 2009 brought programs that reached out to its neighbors. Two such programs in our summer arts camp were particularly significant this year.

In our Summer Program, our weekly theme Come Fly with Me inspired students to build their own personal vehicles.  This theme led to discussion and awareness about energy efficient vehicles and related issues. Another weekly theme, Walking on Sunshine, inspired conversations about recycling and protecting our own environment.  Walking on Sunshine saw students reaching into the community to help clean up trash around the neighborhood. Related discussions about the environment and health were a natural.

The Creative Arts Studio, as a resource, continues to explore and expand the arts. Thanks to your participation, our 2nd and newer studio, on Union Street, continues to grow. Both studios continue to develop their programs, engage new ideas, and always keep to the mission of guiding students minds and bodies in growing their individual talents.

The Creative Arts Studio continues to open doors to open minds.
