Director’s Note | 2010
It is the mission of Creative Arts Studio to encourage learning through artistic methods that are individually meaningful to each student. In our second decade of business we continue to hold close to this mission.
2010 brings a focus on Health and Wellness. We feature new affiliate programs, gathering the expertise of talented specialists. You will see new programs such as Wellness Wednesdays, a FREE health event with Integrative Nutrition Coach, Loni Markman, where students learn about nutrition, fitness, enjoy food sampling and more. Or join us for Reiki Reaching Out, with Reiki Master Wendy Lipson teaching workshops where students enjoy deep relaxation, learning to heal themselves and others through this gentle and profoundly effective energy source.
2010 also brought a successful showcase held at the Brooklyn Museum. In this showcase, the dance and drama pieces performed were all inspired by works of art. The museum venue brought a real "close and personal" awareness to well-known paintings as students related to information on the artist and history behind a presented piece. In coordinating a connection between the visual and performing arts, students broadened their interpretive skills, learned to appreciate varying perspectives and expanded their knowledge about another art medium.
Our 2010 Summer Camp included programs that reach out and teach children to give back to their communities. Our studios learned that neighborhood trees were threatened by the lack of rain and showing signs of stress. To “keep our streets and parks green”, CAS students lent a hand in bringing water to the trees in the area, contributing to their restoration.
Last but certainly not least, we strive to bring the outside in. CAS offers open house weeks and showcase events of our programs. We are excited about our upcoming CAS Gallery Reception in December. At that time, the community will be invited to view the transformed entrance on Atlantic Avenue into a gallery featuring works of art by friends of the studio. The reception will celebrate photographs by Heather Weston accompanied by wine, cheese and good company. We always look forward to our annual Spring Showcase at the Brooklyn Museum’s Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium with its afternoon of entertainment by students performing works they've created at Creative Arts during the school year.
The Creative Arts Studios continue to open doors to open minds. 2010 adds health awareness to the mix of mind and body.
Share the experience, embrace the performing arts and join us on our journey to health and wellness.
